Barcelona are reportedly ‘relieved’ that Georginio Wijnaldum has supposedly held positive crunch talks with Jurgen Klopp – because they didn’t want the midfielder anyway.
News reports Barca’s top brass are happy Wijnaldum has apparently told Klopp he wants to stay at Anfield and sign a new deal, because they hadn’t wanted to fund a deal for the player in the first place.
Rumours linking the 29-year-old with the Camp Nou emerged following former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman’s appointment as Barcelona manager.
However, it looks like Wijnaldum, who’s in the final year of his Liverpool deal, will be staying at Anfield for another season.
The report also states that Barcelona would prefer a move for former player Thiago Alcantara.
Thiago has been heavily linked with the Premier League champions this summer but it’s understood Liverpool may sell Wijnaldum to fund a deal to bring the Spain international in.
